RESOLUTION

This meeting of the General body of the Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh today, on February 7, 2012, unanimously adopted a Resolution condemning the forceful occupation of the sacred and historical site of Gurdwara GYAN GODRI at Haridwar and converting it into shops and a government departmental office, totally obliterating its function as the Gurdwara at the spot where Guru Nanak Devji held the famous discourse with the Pundits offering water to the Sun god by offering water to his fields in Punjab as a futile act. The demolition of the sacred Gurdwara was carried out in 1984 during Anti-Sikh riots and despite earnest efforts of the Sikhs has not been restored rightfully to the Sikh community although the municipal records continue to clearly indicate the site as a Gurdwara. The general House of the Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh, asks the authorities concerned to vacate peacefully the site of the Gurdwara, demolish the unauthorized structures and usage thereon and restore it to the usage as the Gurdwara which it has been for more than four hundred years.

This meeting of the General house of the Institute of Sikh Studies urges the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Amritsar and the Delhi Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee to initiate steps for the restoration of the Gurdwara site at the earliest.
