Unique School - Sri Guru Granth Sahib Vidya Kender

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Vidya Kender is an educational institution founded in 1980 by Late S. Hukam Singh ji, Ex Speaker of the Lok Sabha on an area of 2.5 Acres donated by S. Faqir Singh ji. The Institution is located at Andheria Morh, Opposite Chhatarpur Metro Station, New Delhi – 110074. All the buildings which we have today, have come up with the support of the Donors.
Admission
Admission is open to needy boys irrespective of the state to which they belong. At the time of admission, the boy should be around 14 years of age and capable of washing his Kes & essential clothes. He should have some knowledge of Gurmukhi. We however prefer the boys who have passed class 10th or even 12th .
Role
The Kender provides moral, academic & professional education to approximately 200 underprivileged boys absolutely free every year. The entire expenditure towards boarding, lodging, uniforms, books, stationery, school/ university fees, medical care etc. is borne by the Kender during the first year, the boys are imparted Gurmat training and most of them commit to memory the Nitnem Banis. They also partake Amrit within 6 months. Average expenditure is Rs. 7000/- per month per boy.
Education
Classes are conducted in Maths, Science , Social Science, English, Computer for which we outsource teachers. We prepare them to clear 10th exam from National Open School as only then they become eligible for vocational training.
Harmonium, Tabla, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Shabad Vichar, History, Music, basic Tailoring etc. are conducted within the campus and Gurmat trained teachers reside inside the Campus. The boys who join the Kender after 10th /12th pass must undergo Gurmat training in the first year. Most of them become good Pathis also.
Vocational Training
Each year meritorious students are enrolled in professional courses such as Diploma in Engineering, Paramedical (Laboratory Technician, X-Ray and Physiotherapy & Dialysis). Technical training in industrial training institutes is arranged for trades like Electrician, Refrigeration & AC, Welding and Fabrication, Machinist, Fitter, Draftsman, Diploma in Cutting/Tailoring etc . After completing their professional education, students are placed in the industry enabling them to be self sufficient.
Paramedical students are placed in super speciality hospitals like SRL Laboratories, Medanta, Fortis, Spinal Injuries Hospital, Primus, B.L. Kapoor Hospital.
Boys who have undergone course of Motor mechanic are serving in leading organizations such as Galaxy Toyota, Gates India, Sharda Motors, Rana Tyres, Competent Motors, Magic Auto & Advance India Projects Ltd., etc. Some of them have also established their own independent businesses.
Thousands of other students are serving the community as Granthis, katha Wachaks , Religious Teachers, Sewadars and Raagis in various local and historical Gurdwara in India as well as abroad.

Cost of vocational training per boy amounts to Rs. 50000/- per year. No financial aid is provided by Central Government or Government of Delhi for reasons of domicile. We are grateful to our Donors for liberal help.
Service provided
Sangat grants us an opportunity to serve them by rendering services of :

– Birthday/Anniversary & Langar
– Seminars/ Lectures/Workshops in Auditorium
– Akhand Path Sahib
– Anand Karaj
All these functions can be held at our premises or at the residence of the sangat. Our staff and students are specially trained for these services.

Following facilities are available in the Kender:-
– Two beautiful, modern, air-conditioned Gurdwara halls
– 5 A.C rooms for Akhand path & Sahej path
– Two Langar Halls
– Guest Room fully furnished with attached Bathroom
– Huge car parking facility
– Auditorium is available for events.
Medical Cover
We have a part time Doctor, who visits the Kender 5 days a week at 1000hrs. For further treatment students are referred to specialises, who are associated with the Kender listed below:-
a) Dr. IPS. Kalra, MBBS, MD, (Senior Cardiologist)
b) Dr. M.S. Sahi, MBBS, MD (Anaesthesia & Pain specialist)
c) Dr. Kritika, MBBS, MD (Internal Medicine)
Games
Opportunity is provided to the boys to play Volley Ball and Cricket. We have a coach , who supervises the net practices and arranges matches with other schools in Delhi.
Martial Art
We have a coach, who teaches the martial game of GATKA within the Campus twice a week. Some of senior boys can perform the same with swords too.
Guru Nanak Auditorium
In recognition of the Guru Granth Sahib Vidya Kender's initiative for providing holistic education to underprivileged children, the Delhi Government awarded a shield for outstanding humanitarian work done by the Kender.
Shrimati Shiela Dikshit Ex- Chief Minister of Delhi visited the Kender number of times. She was highly pleased with Sewa being rendered by the Kender and sanctioned a grant of Rs. 25 Lakhs to set up an Auditorium .
